A Citizens’ Proposal for Ethical Immigration Reform
We are a nation in crisis. We are in the midst of a partial government shutdown that is threatening to become the longest in our nation’s history. Real people, real families are being hurt by the inability of our government to find solutions through bipartisan compromise. It is time for the citizens of this government of, by, and for the people to show the way forward. Mormon Women for Ethical Government has spent the past year working in collaboration with immigration scholars, law professors, and attorneys to craft the following citizens’ proposal to the current gridlock over immigration reform. Urgent Call to Action: Yemen Famine
November 28, 2018 There is something we can all do TODAY that could help prevent millions of people from starving to death. Right now, it is estimated that 130 children per day are dying in Yemen. We need both divine intervention and the immediate action of citizens and legislators to fix this. The Senate is scheduled to vote on a bipartisan resolution this week that would end U.S. backing of the Saudi-led war that is causing the conditions. Official Statement From Mormon Women for Ethical Government Regarding the Treatment of Those Seeking Refuge at the Southern Border
November 26, 2018 Yesterday, several groups of Central American migrants who had been traveling for weeks to seek asylum in the United States rushed the border near the San Ysidro Port of Entry in California. Both U.S. and international law protect the right of individuals to claim asylum at the border, but the Trump administration has been actively implementing policies to make that process more difficult. In an attempt…

Official Statement from Mormon Women for Ethical Government in Response to the Forced Resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions
November 9, 2018 In view of the forced resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the subsequent appointment of acting Attorney General Matthew J. Whitaker, we must once again insist that our leaders put politics aside and make every effort to safeguard the investigation being conducted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. The legitimacy of the executive branch depends upon it. While acknowledging that there are unanswered questions about the legality of the appointment of Acting Attorney General Whitaker, we urge him in the interim to uphold all laws, regulations, policies, and long-standing procedural norms to ensure that Special Counsel Mueller is able to fully and effectively complete his investigation regarding…

Official Statement From Mormon Women for Ethical Government on the 2018 Midterm Elections
November 7, 2018 Even as final numbers continue to be tallied in some key races, we celebrate record-breaking voter participation in this midterm election and the historic election of more than 100 women to Congress. We are elated by the number of women who broke major barriers to become the first women of their race, ethnicity, religion, or age to have the opportunity to serve in Congress or state offices, and we are eager to support and work with them in creating a more productive, less partisan, more inclusive, and more egalitarian culture in Washington. The marked rise in civic engagement and voter participation across the country and among most…
