Call to Action: Request Your Senators Support a Bipartisan Commission to Investigate the January 6 Insurrection
On January 6, 2021, Americans watched, horrified, as an attack was carried out on our nationâs Capitol building, threatening all members of the U.S. Congress and hundreds of staff and security personnel. The result was tragic, with as many as 150 people injured or killed. This assault was not only physical but also symbolic, as it sought to disrupt the Constitutionally mandated process of certifying the electoral ballots. Motivated by a big lie, the insurrection was a bald-faced assault on the institutions and norms of American democracy. When America has been attacked in the past, as with the September 11 terrorist attacks, an independent bipartisan commission has been established to…

Call to Action: Tell Your Utah State Reps to Delay Passing 2nd Amendment Sanctuary and Critical Race Theory Resolutions
On May 19, Utah will be holding a special legislative session to consider âcrucial budget issuesâ and other bills added at the request of legislators. On May 17, Governor Cox approved 22 issues to be discussed in the special session. Although he had been asked to add establishing Utah as a Second Amendment sanctuary state and banning critical race theory to the approved topics list, Governor Cox declined to do so. Instead, he expressed support for delaying discussion of any legislation regarding establishing Utah as a Second Amendment sanctuary state or dealing with diversity, equity, and inclusion in education until those topics could be heard in a normal session. He…

Call to Action: Support Dreamers and Pass the Dream Act of 2021
UPDATE: On July 16, 2021, a federal judge ruled that accepting new DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) applications is illegal. While this does not change the status of current DACA recipients, it does bar new applicants, emphasizing the need for legislative action. The House passed the Dream Act, but the bill is currently held up in the Senate. We need to continue to encourage our senators to work together to find a legislative solution to ensure Dreamers are protected from deportation and are provided a reasonable pathway to permanent status. The American Dream and Promise Act of 2021 is a bipartisan bill that would provide permanent protection and a…

Call to Action: Tell Your Members of Congress to Certify the Election Results
On January 6, 2021, Congress will meet in a joint session to formally count the votes of the Electoral College. The states have already certified their votes and counted their own electors; Biden won with 306 to 232 for Trump. As per the Electoral Count Act of 1887, Congress must now count the electoral votes as submitted by the states. This is one of the last steps in the process for the November 2020 election, which was deemed the “most secure” election in American history. As Republican Senator Ben Sasse (NE) has stated, “not a single state is in legal doubt“; every legal attempt to prove election fraud â “an…

Call to Action: Support the Mission of the United States Postal Service
Americans rate the United States Postal Service as their favorite federal agency. Its workforce of more than half a million is scattered across the U.S., making it the biggest employer of any government entity except the military. And it will play an outsized role in Americansâ ability to vote safely during the worst global health crisis in 100 years. Yet the USPS is undergoing transformations, and not necessarily for the better. Its newly appointed postmaster general is implementing changes that have slowed mail delivery, which is problematic on at least three levels: First, the changes will damage the vote in terms of delivery time, votes held back, and a possible…

Call to Action: Speak Out Against Federal and Executive Overreach
Regularly and repeatedly, and especially in the last few weeks, President Trump has threatened or exercised executive overreach to the detriment of the American peopleâs national representation, Constitutional protections, and First Amendment freedoms. Conservative legislators, often critical of executive and federal overreach, have been largely silent. Yet as Tea Party conservative and Republican Senator Mike Lee has said, âExecutive overreach â and abdication of Congressâs constitutional powers â is neither a Republican nor Democratic issue; neither a liberal nor a conservative one. Itâs an American one.â We agree that overreach is an American issue, and we expect our members of Congress to understand this as well. To do:Â Contact your…
