Official Statement From Mormon Women for Ethical Government on the House Impeachment Vote
December 18, 2019 We assert that our most sacred civic expression is the casting of an individual vote. Any president or leader who forces political support and fails to honor and protect the free and legitimate elections on which our republic rests has lost the moral right to govern. By attempting to compel Ukraine to announce investigations benefitting only his re-election efforts, President Trump forced every American taxpayer to become an unwitting contributor to his political campaign and a supporter of his re-election. Regardless of the behavior of any other political actor in either party, the president of the United States is never justified in bringing our common resources and…

Urgent Call to Action: Proposed Fee Increase by USCIS
December 10, 2019 On November 14, 2019, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) proposed a fee schedule adjustment that would drastically increase fees for naturalization, asylum, DACA, work permits, and more. The proposed rule would also eliminate fee waivers for citizenship, lawful permanent residency, employment authorization, and other applications. In addition, it would increase fees for obtaining family history records through USCIS by 500% — a move that would have a significantly negative impact on genealogy and family history research. These drastic fee hikes functionally change immigration policy by placing almost all immigration procedures out of financial reach. The fee for an application for citizenship, for example, would be raised…

Urgent Call to Action: Immigration Detention
December 6, 2019 Here’s one quick and simple thing you can do right now if you’re feeling heartbroken and enraged at news of another child’s tragic and unnecessary death in immigration detention. Call the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection and demand that they follow the CDC recommendations for giving migrants the flu vaccine. Then encourage two or three other people to call as well. DHS Office of Inspector General: 1-800-323-8603(Just FYI, they will ask for your name and contact information, but we’ve been told it is only for purposes of following up on questions about the investigation.)DHS Comment Line: 202-282-8495 You can also submit a complaint…

Official Statement from Mormon Women for Ethical Government on the Testimonies of Marie Yovanovitch and Dr. Fiona Hill
November 25, 2019 At Mormon Women for Ethical Government, our mission is “to inspire women of faith to be ambassadors of peace who transcend partisanship and courageously advocate for ethical government.” Last week in D.C. we had the privilege of seeing that mission personified by two remarkable public servants — Marie Yovanovitch and Dr. Fiona Hill. As they testified before the House Intelligence Committee, both women spoke at great personal cost, yet they did so with clarity and precision. They were unfailingly respectful but would not back down from the truth. In short, they exemplified the kind of courage and competence we aspire to in the pursuit of our mission.…

Call to Action: Call Your Representatives About Migrant Protection Protocol
November 21, 2019 Last week MWEG introduced the Principles of Ethical Government. One of the three guiding principles is responsibility — that “all human beings are mutually accountable to their fellow human beings.” We believe we will be held responsible by our Heavenly Parents for how we treat each other or allow others to be treated. This is no less true of how we are treating our brothers and sisters south of the border who are suffering in Mexico as they wait for asylum to be granted. In January of this year, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a new policy called the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP, also publicly…
