Full and Fair Trial Rally Speech Text

January 16, 2020 My name is Brooke Nelson, and I am a lawyer and a mom of two young children. My name is Tracy Nuttall, and I am also a lawyer and mother. We are members of Mormon Women for Ethical Government. We are here today representing the over 7,000 members of our organization.  We are Republicans. We are Democrats. We are Independents and the unaffiliated. Our combined voices represent the majority of American voters, and we believe that as voters, we have a duty to remind our government leaders of their obligation to govern in truth. The overwhelming evidence brought to light in recent investigative efforts regarding our president,…

Official Statement from Mormon Women for Ethical Government on Refugee Resettlement in Texas

We are deeply troubled by Governor Abbottā€™s decision to reject refugee resettlement in the state of Texas. The new court decision striking down President Trumpā€™s executive order means the governorā€™s refusal will not stand, but his letter made it clear he does not believe new refugees are welcome. We decry this decision of exclusion and strongly encourage him to reconsider it. We applaud those leaders, like Utah Governor Herbert, who not only opted in to the refugee resettlement program, but also requested additional refugees, saying they are ā€œeager to see the number of admittances rise again.ā€ Herbert painted an accurate picture of mutual benefit and an embedded culture of compassion…

Call to Action: Full and Fair Impeachment Trial

As the impeachment trial begins in the Senate today, we reaffirm our position that anything less than a full and fair impeachment trial, including pertinent witnesses and evidence, will be a violation of oaths taken by U.S. senators. Early analysis of the rules set forth by the McConnell resolution is deeply troubling; they ignore established procedures for admitting evidence and calling witnesses. They are designed to hide rather than expose the truth. Be a Witness: Speak Out for a Full and Fair Impeachment Trial

UPDATE: Deadline extended to 5PM PT / 6PM MT / 7PM CT / 8PM ET.We are Republicans. We are Democrats. We are Independents and the unaffiliated. Our combined voices represent the majority of American voters, and we are frustrated by politicians who weaponize our two-party system as a means to consolidate and maintain political power. Hyperpartisanship makes enemies of fellow citizens and insulates leaders from the natural and legal consequences of their actions. When this happens, we all lose. There is a better way. We must come together and unitedly proclaim that our primary allegiance is to the nation we love. Then, as voters, we must demand the highest standards…

    Refugee Resettlement: An Update

January 9, 2020 By Christie Black, Director of Engagement I have been working within the Phoenix refugee community since 2015, and my immigrant friends have become a part of my everyday life. When the president issued Executive Order 13888 last fall, which requires all state and local governments to opt in to receive refugees in 2020, my heart sank into my stomach. I thought back to when I was volunteering for a local non-profit in 2016. I was helping with their Facebook posting, which required me to receive Google alerts for any mention of the word ā€œrefugees.ā€ Some of the media notifications were absolutely ugly ā€” and absolutely false ā€”…
