Official Statement From Mormon Women for Ethical Government on the Tragic Religious Persecution and Violence in Sri Lanka

April 22, 2019 We are filled with deep sorrow as we once again respond to the devastating loss of life motivated by religious hatred and bigotry, this time affecting hundreds of our fellow Christians and others throughout Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday. We offer our most heartfelt condolences and prayers to all those who have lost loved ones in these horrific attacks. We also pray for the law enforcement and medical professionals responding to these attacks and for the lives and health of those who have been injured. For followers of Jesus Christ, Easter is the holy day on which we rejoice in Jesus Christ’s resurrection, His ultimate triumph over death…

Official Statement From Mormon Women for Ethical Government on the Conclusion of the Mueller Investigation

March 23, 2019 As our nation awaits news on the contents and conclusions of the Mueller report, we remind Attorney General William P. Barr of his stated commitment to transparency. Politicians and pundits on both sides of the aisle have politicized this investigation in ways that served their own purposes while further dividing the American people. Now Attorney General Barr has the opportunity to prevent further disunity and distrust by releasing a full declassified version of the report to Congress and the American public. We urge our fellow citizens of every political persuasion to resist the efforts of those who would benefit from continued division and suspicion. We must put…

Official Statement From Mormon Women for Ethical Government on the Tragic Religious Persecution and Violence in Christchurch, New Zealand

March 15, 2019 Less than six months ago, we mourned the tragic deaths of our sisters and brothers of the Jewish faith whose lives were taken at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Today, our hearts are broken again by the loss of more of God’s children due to hatred and prejudice–our sisters and brothers of the Muslim faith in Christchurch, New Zealand. We are pained that we must repeat our same expression of deepest sorrow, anguish, and righteous indignation on behalf of those whose lives have been lost or threatened, as well as their families and loved ones. In civil society, there is absolutely no place for…

Official Statement From Mormon Women for Ethical Government on the Joint Resolution in Response to the President’s Declaration of National Emergency

February 26, 2019 This week, members of Congress will vote on a joint resolution to terminate President Trump’s declaration of national emergency that would allow him to reallocate government resources to build a wall on the southern border–a wall that Congress voted not to fund. Congress must pass this joint resolution in order to fulfill its duty to act as a necessary check on the executive branch of our government. If Congress abdicates its responsibility to oversee our government’s purse strings, whether out of political expediency, misplaced loyalty, or fear of potential political fallout, our entire inspired system of checks and balances will be seriously threatened. Our elected representatives in Congress…

Official Statement from Mormon Women for Ethical Government on Continuing Government Shutdown

January 24, 2019 This afternoon, the Senate failed to pass a continuing resolution that would have ended the government shutdown and given Congress two weeks to come to a compromise on border security and immigration reform. It is unconscionable for Congress to allow hundreds of thousands of federal workers and their families to continue to suffer because of a purely political crisis. We have been praying for our leaders to have wisdom and humility, and we have persistently contacted their offices to ask that they bring an end to this unnecessary shutdown. We are especially grateful to Senator Lamar Alexander, Senator Susan Collins, Senator Cory Gardner, Senator Johnny Isakson, Senator Lisa Murkowski, and Senator Mitt…
