Voter Prep Party Tips!
By Breanne Potter, MWEG Nebraska Chapter Lead
We are a modest chapter of Mormon Women for Ethical Government in Omaha, Nebraska. Some of our members are new to the scene of political proactiveness, so before the election last year we decided to throw a “voter preparation party.” On my kitchen table I put “I Registered to Vote” stickers, a handout on how to prepare to vote, and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. In less time than it takes to watch a couple of shows, we were ready to go.
You can see our handout here; we followed MWEG’s template and tailored it to our state’s specific needs. The party was a success! A handful of people who attended (and more who saw the event on Facebook but couldn’t attend) registered to vote using the links and resources we provided.
The MWEG leadership team was so incredibly helpful. They sent me links and stickers and support from afar. In throwing the party, I learned how little some people know about local and state voting. I was thrilled to see people feel empowered when they realized they could use their voice in something more than just a presidential election.
You can provide this opportunity to others like this too! Email voterprep@mweg.org to get your voter prep packet or contact your local MWEG chapter for more info.
