Official Statement From Mormon Women for Ethical Government on Unethical Policing Practices by the Woods Cross Police Department
June 7, 2019 Yesterday, in West Bountiful, Utah, a police officer who was involved in a multi-agency manhunt for two adult suspects stopped his vehicle and drew his firearm on a 10-year-old black child who was playing in his front yard. The officer ordered the child at gunpoint to get on the ground before determining that he did not fit the description of the suspects and quickly leaving without further explanation. The incident was witnessed in part by the child’s mother, who ran outside to the child’s defense. June 26, 2018 As members of Mormon Women for Ethical Government, we are deeply disappointed and dismayed at today’s Supreme Court ruling upholding the latest iteration of the Trump administration’s travel ban. We believe there are multiple factors that make this travel ban unprecedented, and we cannot discount or ignore the greater context in which the ban was issued. Therefore, we feel we must take this opportunity to speak out against any policies or practices rooted in animus towards Muslims. MWEG-Arizona Holds Vigil at the Border
Powerful moments at the Arizona vigil at the border wall. Participants were intently watched by border patrol agents the entire time, and the media turned up in force. One participant wrote: We had two television stations, two local newspapers, and a reporter from Buzzfeed. All stayed nearly the entire time. We sang, we prayed, and we shared our light – all with a backdrop of daily life in Mexico playing out behind us. Feb. 15, 2018 As members of both houses of Congress continue to debate and negotiate a resolution for DREAMers this week, we call upon them to work toward ethical solutions that focus on the interests and needs of the American people rather than the tempting pull of partisan politics. January 12, 2018 President Trump’s recent comments about Haiti and several countries in Africa and Central America were indefensible–ugly, offensive, racist, and decidedly un-Presidential.
