November 9, 2018 In view of the forced resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the subsequent appointment of acting Attorney General Matthew J. Whitaker, we must once again insist that our leaders put politics aside and make every effort to safeguard the investigation being conducted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. The legitimacy of the executive branch depends upon it. While acknowledging that there are unanswered questions about the legality of the appointment of Acting Attorney General Whitaker, we urge him in the interim to uphold all laws, regulations, policies, and long-standing procedural norms to ensure that Special Counsel Mueller is able to fully and effectively complete his investigation regarding…

October 27, 2018 Yet again, the United States of America has been wounded by the tragic deaths of some of God’s children because of blatant hatred and prejudice. Our hearts are broken over todayâs mass shooting at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvaniaâs Tree of Life Synagogue and Wednesdayâs targeting of a black church and subsequent killing of two black senior citizens at a grocery store in Jeffersontown City, Kentucky. Additionally, a number of prominent Democrats were threatened this week by hate-filled political violence in the form of pipe bombs which, fortunately, was prevented by the good work of those tasked with protecting our country’s political leaders. October 19, 2018 The recently released report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) highlights the deleterious effects of global climate change. The consequences of maintaining the status quo of carbon emissions and the resulting rate of global temperature change are dire and include major shifts in patterns of weather, fire, and hydrology; large-scale impacts on biodiversity; and disruption to human systems, including agriculture and food supplies, migration, national security, and economies. Mormon Women for Ethical Government Promotes Voter Registration, Education, and Turnout Ahead of Midterm Elections
Mormon Women for Ethical Government (MWEG) engaged intensively in the Kavanaugh confirmation battle out of our desire to protect the legitimacy of the Supreme Court and because of our conviction that sexual assault allegations should be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. As a nonpartisan group, we are united in concern that public trust in our civic institutions is harmed by bitter and divisive partisanship. October 8, 2018 The past few weeks leading up to Saturday’s Supreme Court confirmation vote have been difficult ones for America. In an effort to score a political win, politicians on both sides gambled with the trust of the American people, and the result is that we all lost. We watched in real time while hyper-partisanship dealt a serious blow to one of our most sacred democratic institutions. Some have asked why MWEG engaged so publicly in this particular battle.
