Full and Fair Trial Prayer and Action Breakfast Speech Text
January 16, 2020 Mormon Women for Ethical Government’s work is driven by four core attributes: We are faithful, nonpartisan, peaceful, and proactive. This morning, in this particular company, we want to share some of our ideas about the first of those attributes: What it means to be faithful in the context of civic engagement. For many of our members, faith is central to our advocacy and how we practice it. Faith drives us to participate in civic affairs because it demands that we love our neighbor as ourselves, and because where there is no vision the people perish. Because of our faith, we fight to preserve a society where each…

Full and Fair Trial Press Conference Speech Text
January 16, 2020 My name is Debra Coe, and I am a Republican. My name is Neca Allgood, and I am a Democrat. My name is Catherine Eslinger, and I am a member of the United Utah party. We are all members of Mormon Women for Ethical Government, also known as MWEG. People often ask why MWEG continues to advocate so forcefully for a full and fair impeachment trial. They are surprised that this particular group of women would be so bold. We do this because, in this destructive partisan climate, we believe the only way to heal our nation is to uncover truth and start building consensus around it.…

Call to Action: Full and Fair Impeachment Trial
As the impeachment trial begins in the Senate today, we reaffirm our position that anything less than a full and fair impeachment trial, including pertinent witnesses and evidence, will be a violation of oaths taken by U.S. senators. Early analysis of the rules set forth by the McConnell resolution is deeply troubling; they ignore established procedures for admitting evidence and calling witnesses. They are designed to hide rather than expose the truth. Because the resolution allows for dismissal at any time, without allowing for arguments or discussion, Senator McConnell has created a process designed to conceal truth and exonerate the president rather than to lay bare the truth and derive…

Be a Witness: Speak Out for a Full and Fair Impeachment Trial
UPDATE: Deadline extended to 5PM PT / 6PM MT / 7PM CT / 8PM ET.We are Republicans. We are Democrats. We are Independents and the unaffiliated. Our combined voices represent the majority of American voters, and we are frustrated by politicians who weaponize our two-party system as a means to consolidate and maintain political power. Hyperpartisanship makes enemies of fellow citizens and insulates leaders from the natural and legal consequences of their actions. When this happens, we all lose. There is a better way. We must come together and unitedly proclaim that our primary allegiance is to the nation we love. Then, as voters, we must demand the highest standards…

Official Statement From Mormon Women for Ethical Government on the House Impeachment Vote
December 18, 2019 We assert that our most sacred civic expression is the casting of an individual vote. Any president or leader who forces political support and fails to honor and protect the free and legitimate elections on which our republic rests has lost the moral right to govern. By attempting to compel Ukraine to announce investigations benefitting only his re-election efforts, President Trump forced every American taxpayer to become an unwitting contributor to his political campaign and a supporter of his re-election. Regardless of the behavior of any other political actor in either party, the president of the United States is never justified in bringing our common resources and…
