Mormon Women for Ethical Government to Speak at 59th Inaugural National Prayer Service

Executive Director for Mormon Women for Ethical Government, Emma Petty Addams, Joins Leaders of Faith-Based Organizations at the First Virtual National Prayer Service

WASHINGTON — Mormon Women for Ethical Government is honored to announce that Executive Director Emma Petty Addams will participate in the offering of a liturgical prayer at the 59th annual Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service on Thursday, January 21, at 10 a.m. ET, hosted by the Washington National Cathedral and livestreamed at https://cathedral.org and https://bideninaugural.org/watch.

The virtual event will include readings, prayers, and performances from a diverse group of religious and spiritual leaders, musical guests, and leaders of faith-based organizations, like Addams.

“One of the missions of MWEG is to empower everyday women of our faith to proactively use our voices in the public sphere as we improve our communities,” Addams said. “We are grateful for this opportunity to join in prayer across a diversity of faiths to remember those who are suffering and to bless our nation at this time.”

Mormon Women for Ethical Government was founded four years ago and quickly gained a national following. “We are proud to represent thousands of women who have dedicated themselves to the hard work of peacefully defending ethical government during a fractious period,” said Emily Taylor, MWEG’s director of peacemaking. “As disciples of Christ, we are peacemakers at our core, and the work of peacemaking begins with coming together in humility and prayer.”

In a time of unprecedented sickness and social unrest, the prayer event will ask for help healing our nation from both physical and civil illness. “As President M. Russell Ballard said in 2019, our nation has always been preserved by prayer,” said Amy Gold Douglas, MWEG’s director of faith initiatives. “We are honored to answer his call to pray for our nation and her leaders and to join our voices with individuals of faith who believe, as we do, in the restorative power of prayer.”
