5-Day Call to Action: Pray and Act for Truth

Each day this week, please do something to stand for truth. Set a reminder on your phone to help you remember. Check back here each day for a new prompt. Every day (Monday–Friday), do these three things: 1. Read this piece by MWEG member Elizabeth Davis-Edwards and then get on your knees and pray for the United States and for truth as she so beautifully advises. 2. Pick up your phone and call your senators to tell them you support a full and fair impeachment trial with pertinent witnesses and evidence. 3. Comment on our Facebook post (name your state) and tag someone you know, asking them to read, pray,…

Call to Action: Full and Fair Impeachment Trial

As the impeachment trial begins in the Senate today, we reaffirm our position that anything less than a full and fair impeachment trial, including pertinent witnesses and evidence, will be a violation of oaths taken by U.S. senators. Early analysis of the rules set forth by the McConnell resolution is deeply troubling; they ignore established procedures for admitting evidence and calling witnesses. They are designed to hide rather than expose the truth. Because the resolution allows for dismissal at any time, without allowing for arguments or discussion, Senator McConnell has created a process designed to conceal truth and exonerate the president rather than to lay bare the truth and derive…

Be a Witness: Speak Out for a Full and Fair Impeachment Trial

UPDATE: Deadline extended to 5PM PT / 6PM MT / 7PM CT / 8PM ET.We are Republicans. We are Democrats. We are Independents and the unaffiliated. Our combined voices represent the majority of American voters, and we are frustrated by politicians who weaponize our two-party system as a means to consolidate and maintain political power. Hyperpartisanship makes enemies of fellow citizens and insulates leaders from the natural and legal consequences of their actions. When this happens, we all lose. There is a better way. We must come together and unitedly proclaim that our primary allegiance is to the nation we love. Then, as voters, we must demand the highest standards…

Urgent Call to Action: Proposed Fee Increase by USCIS

December 10, 2019 On November 14, 2019, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) proposed a fee schedule adjustment that would drastically increase fees for naturalization, asylum, DACA, work permits, and more. The proposed rule would also eliminate fee waivers for citizenship, lawful permanent residency, employment authorization, and other applications. In addition, it would increase fees for obtaining family history records through USCIS by 500% — a move that would have a significantly negative impact on genealogy and family history research. These drastic fee hikes functionally change immigration policy by placing almost all immigration procedures out of financial reach. The fee for an application for citizenship, for example, would be raised…

Urgent Call to Action: Immigration Detention

December 6, 2019 Here’s one quick and simple thing you can do right now if you’re feeling heartbroken and enraged at news of another child’s tragic and unnecessary death in immigration detention. Call the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection and demand that they follow the CDC recommendations for giving migrants the flu vaccine. Then encourage two or three other people to call as well. DHS Office of Inspector General: 1-800-323-8603(Just FYI, they will ask for your name and contact information, but we’ve been told it is only for purposes of following up on questions about the investigation.)DHS Comment Line: 202-282-8495 You can also submit a complaint…
